Assignment 1 - CALL

Computer Assisted Language Learning or CALL  is a study tool kit to learn language.
  • Introduced in 1960, it emphasized Behaviorist learning model - computer was treated as mechanical tutor.
  • In the 70's and 80's, Cognitive approach came into existence and the label communicative CALL came about - computer as pupil that associated with learner-centered approach.
  • Later, Integrative approach was discovered - computer as a tool.

Assignment 2 - CMC

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is the use computer system and network for the transfer,  storage, and retrieval of information among humans. It is basically a communication that occurs via computer mediated format such as instant messages, e-mail, chat room and text messaging. CMC can either be:

  • Synchronous - real time, instantaneous communication such as chatting, video conferencing.
  • Asynchronous - non real time communication  such as e-mail, bulletin board.

Assignment 3 - Corpus Linguistics

Corpus linguistic is the study of linguistic text. Corpus is useful for linguist as a collection of examples, collection of lexicography and as instruction materials for teachers and students. However, we focused on Computational Stylistic which means a study of patterns formed in particular texts, authors, genres, periods via computational methods.
