ISLAMIZATION OF CULTURE

Knowing culture is vital in the Muslim world because through culture we can learn how and why people behave in certain ways and from there we can actually understand them. This is also to go against biasness towards other culture and assume that other culture is not as good as our culture. Through culture we can also be able to adapt the world and through culture we are able to teach people about Islam and our own culture. Therefore, through culture, we Muslim unite to each other because we bow to one God, Allah s.w.t.

Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."
(  سورة البقرة  , Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #136)

Unity of Culture

As we can see above that unity means oneness or being together and undivided, it shows that unity is actually an important element in our daily life. In the concept of God, Unity means oneness in obeying God and that can be referred to Allah and as a Muslim, the world unity also bring other meaning and that is to not forgot people whom in need. It is become our responsibility to help peoples especially our Muslim brothers and sisters even though we live in different cultures. Being stick to the element of unity also can be used as one of proof that Muslim helps people whom seek for help even though they are from different religion and this can make other religions see us a good religion and that can attract them to Islam. Unity is important in all peoples, not only in Muslim’s self but if Muslim really practices this element, it will become a bonus to us to attract others.

Diversity of Culture

Allah has created people in the forms of different race and creed. He also created non human beings like animals and plants with different colours in this world. So, Islam recognizes diversity in many aspects and not only in culture. Everything around us is made beautifully in nature with diversity which shows the Mighty Power of Allah.

This can be approved in Al-Qur’an – “ See you not that Allah sends down rain from the sky? With it We then bring out produce of various colours. And in the mountains are tracts white and red, of various shades of colour, and black intense in hue. And so amongst men and crawling creatures and cattle, are they of various colours. Those truly fear Allah, among His Servants, who have knowledge: for Allah is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving.” (Fatir 35: 27-28)

In addition, Islam recognizes diversities in human beings. These diversities recognized as “God’s Signs”, meaning that signs of God’s creative power and wisdom. Human beings can produce things creatively using their own reason for example, inventions of computers, cars, watches, chemicals, foods and beverages, and even clothes for the needs of human beings.

The diversities of races, families and cultures bring benefits to everyone as people can get to know each other’s cultures and understand it in order to keep harmony among people and to avoid conflicts. Muslims and non-Muslims should build unity and tolerance so to strengthen relationship as mankind. It is to enhance sense of competitiveness and cooperation in a healthy way to produce betterment. Thus, both parties should know which issues can be spoken openly and which issues should be spoken respectfully to avoid crisis like racism, war and terrorism arise.

Thus, people from different culture and religion have different view from each other. Islam encourages people to respect their opinions and also their practices. Their different opinions about some things are also indication of Allah’s power. It shows that they are thinking and using Allah’s gift that is their mind.

Therefore, cultural diversity exists in Islam and should be respected, without any coercion or humiliation by everyone – Muslims or non-Muslims, male or female, young or old, white or colour. This is because in Islam, everyone is equal as everyone is created by one god, Allah.
Conclusion: Uniting the Cultural Diversity

As a Muslim, we must be able to adapt to various culture and be able to communicate and socialize with diversity of culture. Therefore, in every place in the world, Muslim unite with each other through language. Arabic for example, unite the Muslim because we Muslim pray and recite the Quran through Arabic. English language and other languages is used to make people able to communicate and understand each other. So through uniting, we can understand each culture.

Mosque for example, are a place where Muslim around the world gather to pray. However, it is not only used to pray but also it has multipurpose functions where Muslims gather to socialize for example during Hari Raya, for teaching Islamic practice, and even for meeting points. One major example is Makkah, where Muslims around the world meet and submit to Allah s.w.t.

REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT 1

The lesson that we have gain from Assignment 1 is that we can learn and improve our language skills via computer. We learn that computer can be assistance to language learning. Computer can be a teacher, a tool and also a student. Participants of L2 learners in the research (“Oral Computer Mediated Interaction between L2 Learners” by Inigo Yanguas) negotiate for meanings with each other in order to understand Spanish lexical items and to complete the task given in a short time no matter what types of CMC they used.

Moreover, this shows that there is interaction like teacher-student interaction with the aid of computer. The use of oral CMC proves the discovery learning of the learners in solving the activities that which can improve their understanding through their mistakes. However, the correct use of language is vital in communication in order to give a clear instruction to receiver. The use of visual cues reduces negotiation of meanings but still it can help language learning through pictures.

REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT 2

Computer can be multi-functional but it really depends on the individual whether to use it for a good way or vice versa. In other word, it depends on one’s intention. By doing this assignment, we can expand our knowledge and sharpen our eyes and mind that intention can be detected through writing like choices of words, colors and also style of organization. Besides, we have also gained extra knowledge that computer or technology in specific way can be used for various purposes and not only for adding new friends. For example blogging like Anna Rina that used blog as a medium to promote her business.

Other than that, we also realized that we need to be creative and able to use all the hospitality that provided for us nowadays. People might not even thought that computer can be used as a tool to do business so for lucky youth like us, this opportunity should be grab in order to live in this modern world. Lastly, nowadays youth also must take this opportunity to spread Islam to the whole world as we can make this task easier by using technology.

REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT 3

We learn that computational stylistic mostly used in literary research. Instead of using traditional style, researchers use computer as a tool to gather the data in a short time. In fact, with the use of computer, the data and the findings are more accurate than traditional style. Gender of characters, linguistics aspects, dialogues, etc. can be separated easily by computer. Authorship of writers can simply recognize as their trademark of writing with the help of computer too.

From what we have learnt, we believed that every person is born unique and creative. We all have different styles in writing. Basically, computational stylistics has made the methodology of a research become less complicated and simple. Now, people can distinguish different styles of writing with the help of computer.

OVERALL REFLECTION
  • When we were first assigned to do blogging for this subject, we found it to be a hard task to be done because we were not a technology savvy.
  • This task shows us how important to be up to date with current progress since a fresh graduate need to be able to handle stuff relating to technology.
  • This task also enhance our patience since it is not an easy job to create a creative blog and to make sure every reader likes our blog when they read it.
  • Plus, in completing this job, we need to rely on each other since everyone have different expertise and we need to trust each other.
  • This task needs us to put lot of efforts and to not give up when we stuck in the middle of the job.
